Con la ayuda de Google Maps te mostraremos lo sencillo que es visitar virtualmente Sudáfrica y conocer algunos de los lugares más representativos de este evento.
Johannesburgo :Soccer City
Con una capacidad de hasta las 94 mil 700 localidades, el estadio Soccer City será el escenario del primer partido y del último. Se encuentra al sureste de Johannesburgo y es considerado por muchos la catedral de futbol en Sudáfrica.
Bloemfontein: Free State
Sede la semifinal entre España y Estados Unidos, que se terminó con la victoria de los estadounidenses en uno de los resultados más sorpresivos del torneo.
Durante su remodelación, la capacidad del estadio, que ha sido escenario de grandes encuentros de futbol y rugby, las dos grandes pasiones de la ciudad, aumentó de 38 mil a 45 mil espectadores. Es hogar del Bloemfontein Celtic.
Ciudad del Cabo: Estadio Green Point
Se construyó con motivo del Mundial 2010 y se localiza en el centro de Ciudad de Cabo en el barrio de Green Point, de donde viene su nombre. Cuenta con más de 70 mil localidades y fue construido sobre lo que antes era un campo de golf.
Durban: Moses Mabhida
Ubicado en el corazón del Kings Park Sporting Precinct y con una capacidad de 70 mil espectadores, el Moses Mabhida puede considerarse un estadio de clase mundial y multifuncional.
Con un diseño inspirado en la bandera sudafricana y una arquitectura que representa la unidad de una nación amante de los deportes. Los dos arcos del costado sur del estadio se unen con la parte norte, lo que simboliza la nueva unidad de un país que estuvo dividido. Alcanza los 106 metros de altura.
En su punto más alto, este inmueble, con capacidad para 70 mil espectadores.
Johannesburgo: Ellis Park
El Estadio Ellis Park se encuentra en el centro de Johannesburgo y tiene capacidad para al menos 64 mil localidades.
Ellis Park ha vivido partidos de futbol inolvidables, como el empate de los Bafana Bafana 1-1 contra Argentina, en 1995, y un empate 0-0 en 2000 contra Francia, que se había coronado en el Mundial de 1998.
Actualmente, es la casa del equipo más popular de Sudáfrica: Orlando Pirates.
Nelspruit: Estadio Mbombela
Se construyó específicamente para la Copa del Mundo 2010. Mbombela es un nombre “siswati” que significa literalmente “muchas personas juntas en un lugar pequeño”.
Caben alrededor de 46 mil personas y su forma rectangular facilita la visibilidad desde cualquier punto.
Polokwane: Estadio Peter Mokaba
Ubicado a unos cinco kilómetros del centro de la ciudad, el Estadio Peter Mokaba fue construido en Polokwane, provincia de Limpopo y tiene una capacidad para 45 mil espectadores.
Nombrado en honor a uno de los luchadores contra el régimen del Apartheid, el estadio tiene una importancia histórica para el país. Peter Mokaba nació en Polokwane y fue reconocido por su espíritu de lucha y liderazgo.
Puerto Elizabeth :Estadio Nelson Mandela
El Estadio Nelson Mandela tiene capacidad para 48 mil espectadores y se ubica en las playas del lago North End. Se construyó especialmente para la Copa Mundial del 2010 .
Rustenburgo: Real Bafokeng
Este estadio debe su nombre al pueblo Bafokeng que vive en la región. Se sitúa a 12 kilómetros del centro de la ciudad de Rustenburgo y tiene capacidad para 42 mil personas.
Pretoria: Estadio Loftus Versfeld
Se localiza en el centro de Pretoria, es uno de los estadios más antiguos del país ya que se construyó en el año de 1948 . Actualmente tiene capacidad para 50 mil espectadores.
Robert Owen Loftus Versfeld, a quien se atribuye la instauración del deporte organizado en Pretoria, por ello el estadio lleva el mismo nombre.
