Antes de su lanzamiento, iPad causó mucha expectativa no solo entre los amantes de Apple, sino también entre los escépticos. Lo interesante es que en solo 28 días iPad vendió un millón de unidades en comparación con en el lanzamiento del primer iPhone que tardó casi tres veces más tiempo en llegar a la misma cota de ventas, para ser exactos 74 días.
Además, cabe destacar que el iPad salió al mercado con precios muy competitivos, a partir de los 500 dólares (cuando se había especulado con unos precios de partida que rozarían los 1.000 dólares), lo que ha contribuido en gran medida a su éxito.
En cuanto a las aplicaciones descargadas desde la App Store llegan a los 12 millones, por 1.5 millones de libros electrónicos.

Es la aplicación de Wikipedia para iPad. Esta diseñada para buscar, navegar, y exponer los artículos fácilmente. Cuenta con marcadores, categorías, ajuste interactivo de tamaño y letra, conocimiento contextualizado para mandar enlaces de secciones específicas o búsqueda de frases en el diccionario de Wiktionary sin salir de la página actual, son algunas de las tareas que te permitirá realizar.
Google Mobile App
Búsqueda por voz, mi ubicación que funciona a través de geolocalización, Google Suggest, historial de búsqueda. Además te permite realizar una búsqueda vertical, es decir en Google Maps, Google Imágenes, Google Noticias y Google Shopping.
History Maps
Esta es una colección bastante completa con mapas históricos en alta resolución y si sumamos la resolución de la pantalla de iPad combinada con la calidad de los mapas, entonces el resultado es bastante interesante.
iBooks
Con esta aplicación podrás descargar y leer libros. Incluye iBookstore, con el que puedes bajar los libros más recientes y más populares.
Marvel Comics
Pasa un buen rato con los famosos y tradiconales comics de Marvel. Como olvidar al Capitan America, Thor, Spider-Man y por supuesto Iron Man. El único problema que tal vez le encuentres, y del que algunos se han quejado, es que solo está disponible en inglés
